Methodology
LicensePath compiles licensing requirements directly from official government sources. This page describes how we source, format, and refresh the data you see on every page.
Sources
- State licensing boards and departments of licensing
- State Secretaries of State and revenue/comptroller offices
- City and county clerk offices
- CareerOneStop License Finder (a US Department of Labor resource)
- US Small Business Administration (SBA) publications
Voice and structure
Every page is written in a directory voice. We summarize what the official source says and link directly to that source. We do not advise users on what they specifically should do. Where the official source is ambiguous, we either reproduce the ambiguity (with a note) or omit the detail.
Verification dates
Every entry shows the date it was last verified against the official source. Pages older than 12 months are flagged for re-verification. Rules can change between verification dates, so we always recommend confirming current requirements with the issuing agency.
What we exclude
- Tax preparation or filing advice
- Immigration and work-authorization guidance
- Medical and healthcare professional licensing
- Attorney comparisons or legal representation referrals
Corrections
If you find an error or outdated information, please email hello@licensepath.org. We review reports promptly and log every correction with a date and source.
